This Senior Financial Analyst position will support the Financial Reporting Team within the Controller’s Group. Reporting to the Senior Manager Media Accounting and Reporting, Controller Group, the successful candidate will leverage strong technical accounting and communication skills to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and for effective and efficient processes and internal controls around their preparation and approval. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the consolidation of Media results and assist with various ad hoc special projects.
What you'll be doing:
• Assist with the compilation and analysis of the monthly and quarterly divisional financial reports to Corporate and Media management.
• Analyze assigned financial accounts on a monthly basis and prepare corresponding reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly consolidation journal entries and any other special journal entries as required.
• Prepare and analyze the divisional Statement of Cash Flows, AR Aging, related party transactions on a monthly basis.
• Perform divisional variance analysis on balance sheet and income statement on a monthly basis.
• Assist the external auditors with their quarterly reviews and year-end audits, as necessary.
• Work with Corporate Finance to ensure all information is provided for quarter-ends and year-ends, as required. For example, validating and reviewing MD&A financial information for completeness and accuracy and preparing various account continuities for external reporting.
• Prepare complete financial statements with notes for tax, regulatory, and other reporting purposes.
• Assess/research the appropriate accounting treatment for various unusual and/or complex transactions and determine the impact on the financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
• Liaise with Tax, Mergers and Acquisitions, Legal, and Regulatory to ensure acquisitions & divestitures / other transactions are accounted for accurately and on a timely basis.
• Assist with the maintenance of appropriate financial reporting controls for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
• Help ensure appropriate financial and accounting policies and procedures are being followed by all divisional companies.
• Assist tax department in responding to government tax auditor requests and queries.
• Assist with the preparation of government (i.e. CRTC) and industry related statistical reporting.
• Ad hoc projects or special analysis as required.
What you have:
• Chartered Accountant with 3 to 4 years experience in an accounting environment in either public practice of industry.
• Strong technical skills in IFRS and internal controls/SOX.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer skills (experience with Oracle an asset).
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Organized with strong attention to detail.
• Driven, customer focused and results oriented individual.
• Ability to independently manage and organize multiple work activities in order to meet or exceed established deadlines and priorities.
