Senior Network Engineer

Who we're looking for:

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Rogers Business Managed Services (RBMS) internal and customer network infrastructures. In this role, you will be responsible for promoting best practices and enhancing the customer experience across all touchpoints.

 

What you'll do:

Design Network and Server Infrastructure:

  • Network Architecture: Develop comprehensive network designs that meet the organization’s needs, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and cloud networks.

  • Server Architecture: Develop server designs for stand alone and cluster deployments.

  • Scalability: Ensure the network/server can scale to accommodate future growth and technological advancements.

  • Redundancy and Reliability: Design networks/servers with redundancy to minimize downtime and ensure high availability.

Implement Network Solutions:

  • Configuration: Set up and configure network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and WLAN controllers.  Set up and configure server hardware and virtual environments.  Deployment of virtual services including OVA, OVF, Windows and Linux.

  • Software Installation: Install and configure network and server-related software, including network management tools and security applications.

  • Integration: Integrate new technologies and solutions into the existing network infrastructure seamlessly.

  • Onboarding: Set-Up network in RBMS systems and toolsets.

 

Maintain Network Performance:

  • Technical support: Respond to pro-active incident alerts. Triage, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve network problems, often working with other internal and external teams to resolve complex issues.

  • Optimization: Regularly review and optimize network performance to ensure efficient operation and minimal latency.

  • Upgrade network infrastructure: Implement hardware and software upgrades to improve network performance and security.

  • Upgrade server infrastructure: Implement hardware and software upgrades on server and storage devices.  Implement and upgrade VMware environment and maintain patching.

  • Document network activities: Keep detailed records of network configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.

  • Data Integrity/Quality Assurance: Maintain and ensure the accuracy of customer information in RBMS systems and conduct regular audits to verify data integrity and quality.

Ensure Network Security:

  • Security Protocols: Implement and manage security protocols to protect the network from threats such as unauthorized access, malware, and data breaches.

  • Access Control: Develop and enforce access control policies to ensure only authorized personnel can access sensitive network resources.

  • Disaster Recovery: Create and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of network failures or cyber-attacks.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Technical Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of network and server configurations, changes, and procedures.

  • Reporting: Generate regular reports on network performance, and other relevant metrics for management review.

 

Strong Proficiency Required in the Following Technical Areas:

  • Hands-On Experience:

    • Cisco and Fortinet Technologies: Experience in deploying and managing Cisco and Fortinet solutions for routing, switching, wireless, secure networking, across diverse environments including corporate offices, retail locations, and warehouse environments.  Proficient in configuring and optimizing these technologies to ensure robust and secure network performance.

    • VMware:  Experience in deploying configuring, maintaining and optimizing Broadcom VMware. Experience with vSAN and site recovery manager.  Experience with back and recovery testing and management tool (VEEAM or similar product).

    • Eaton: Experience with commissioning and maintaining Eaton 9K UPS products and managed PDU’s.  Experience with Brightlayer software would be an asset.

  • Advanced Networking Proficiency:

    • WAN, LAN, and WLAN Technologies: Expertise in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting wide area networks (WAN), local area networks (LAN), and wireless local area networks (WLAN). Comprehensive understanding of advanced routing and switching protocols such as MPLS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, and VPN design, ensuring efficient and reliable network connectivity.

  • Systems Administration:

    • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, FTP, and Radius: Skilled in managing and configuring essential network services including Active Directory for user and resource management, DNS for domain name resolution, DHCP for dynamic IP address allocation, FTP for file transfers, and Radius for centralized authentication, authorization, and accounting.  Setup and configuration of Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Software Defined Networking (SDN/SDWAN):

    • Deployment and Administration: Proficient in deploying and administering Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SDWAN) solutions. Capable of leveraging these technologies to enhance network flexibility, scalability, and performance through centralized control and automation.

  • Cloud Integration:

    • Cloud Environments: Experienced in integrating cloud environments with corporate networks. Adept at designing and implementing hybrid cloud solutions that seamlessly connect on-premises infrastructure with cloud services, ensuring secure and efficient data flow and resource utilization.

What you bring:

  • Experience: Strong background in network design, engineering, implementation, and troubleshooting.

  • Education: Degree or diploma in computer science, computer systems engineering, network engineering, information systems, or a related field and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Certifications:

    • Cisco (CCNP or CCIE) or equivalent work experience.

    • Fortinet (NSE4 minimum, NSE 5-8 certification path expected).

    • VMWare (Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization) or equivalent work experience.

  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Able to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

  • Multi-Tasking: Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines are met, and quality is maintained.

  • Adaptability: Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to assess complex problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Problem Solving: Adept at resolving complex technical issues, you provide solutions to internal and external challenges that arise. Your problem-solving skills are essential for overcoming obstacles and ensuring smooth project and workflow progression.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Effective communication and collaboration are key aspects of this role. Your ability to convey ideas clearly and collaborate with various teams helps to build strong relationships and ensures cross-functional alignment.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage workload efficiently.

  • Innovation: A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement in software development processes and team workflows.

  • Other Requirements

    • Must possess a valid driver’s licence and own a car.

    • Flexible schedule, including availability during nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Ability to lift/carry heavy computer equipment and work on-site in various customer environments as required.

    • Willingness to work occasional overtime and travel, including overnight stays, based on requirements.

This is a hybrid work position and will require you to be in office three days per week. You can choose which days work best for you!
