We are looking for a Senior Systems Design Architect to join our Media Technology team at Rogers Sports & Media. The Media landscape is changing. Canadians are increasingly tuning in to streaming as their main source of TV consumption but also want more engagement and more personalization. Rogers Sports & Media understands this need to continuously evolve and transform to delight our fans.

The role of Senior Systems Design Architect is that of a change agent within Rogers Sports and Media. The organizational goals can be summed up as follows: Innovation, Simplification, Integration, Collaboration, Acceleration and Automation. With these in mind, we are looking to revolutionize both how content is created and consumed.

What you’ll do:

  • Broadcast System Design – Design, build and deploy world class broadcast systems utilizing the latest technology trends to optimize workflows. Qualify new technology in a lab environment demonstrating a best-of-breed mentality, being manufacturer agnostic. Work alongside Sales and Operations to solve technical obstacles in innovative initiatives.
  • Technical Project Lead – Work closely with project managers as a technical lead for the entire project lifecycle. Translate technical speak to plain English to assist project managers in accurate reporting to senior leadership. Responsible for ensuring projects are on a track, on budget, and utilizing the latest innovation alongside PMO group.
  • Collaborator – Develop a continuous loop of design, testing, monitoring and improvement with colleagues across Engineering, Operations and NOC teams. Partner cross-functionally with Infrastructure team and Corporate IT to ensure best practice compute, networking, storage, and security policies are enforced. Ensure Architectural Governance is being followed in system designs.
  • DevOps Champion – Drive transformative change to adapt a ‘digital-first’ approach to problem-solving methodology, allowing improvements to integration, automation, and workflow simplification across broadcast systems to be executed through [in-house] software development.  Work closely with the DevOps team to find ways to innovate how content is created, consumed, and distributed.

What you will bring…

  • Expert knowledge of Television, Digital and Radio broadcast systems including Master Control, Production, VOD, Content processing and acquisition (Satellite and IP), distribution and Media Asset Management.
  • Good working knowledge of compute, storage, networking in the cloud and on-prem to work alongside infrastructure team.
  • Excellent presenter and communicator, able to persuade others through use of innovative and out-of-the-box thinking
  • Documentation and process-oriented mentality, strong design skills in Visio or AutoCAD.
  • Experience in monitoring workflows to help RSM become a proactive not reactive facility.
  • Detail orientated while being able to juggle multiple projects and priorities at the same time.
  • Constant willingness to learn and adapt to new industry trends, tools and best practices.
  • Professional Agile/Scrum or PMP Certification would be an asset.
  • Contribute to a team-first mentality and open communication culture
