The Current Affairs Senior Producer will have a strong journalism background and a proven track record in researching, writing and editing daily content on a variety of subjects. Some editing and shooting of digital video is also required. S/he will have leadership experience, a keen visual sense, the ability to conceptualize and communicate visual ideas, as well as a broad knowledge of news, culture, contemporary video journalism and social media. S/he will provide samples of written work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Co-ordinate and schedule assignments with editorial departments.
  • Write, edit and produce accurate, concise and engaging daily short-form videos from start to finish in the style of NowThis and AJ+
  • Oversee daily videos from content producers and give editorial direction on scripts and visuals.  
  • Write compelling, well-researched digital video scripts.
  • Conceive, pitch and potentially execute video story ideas by collaborating with team colleagues.
  • Upload assets to social channels (including YouTube, Facebook and Snapchat), ensure videos can be monetized and analyze video views and metrics.
  •  Some shooting and editing of DSLR video is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum four years in a post-secondary journalism course or five years freelance with qualifying experience.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite essential.
  • Experience with DSLR cameras, audio capturing equipment and continuous lighting.
  • Strong communication skills, positive attitude, team-oriented work ethic.
  • Superior organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Strong interest in the tablet, web and social media.
  • Deep knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work under pressure and rise to creative challenges under tight deadline.
