Sr. Employee Relations Investigator

The Senior ER Investigator plays a critical role in supporting the success of the Employee Relations Investigations team. This role is responsible for conducting high quality, neutral investigations into complex ER matters, as well as leading Workplace Harassment and Violence cases. The Senior ER Investigator applies advanced analytical skills, strong judgment, and deep knowledge of employment and human rights legislation to ensure fair, consistent, and legally sound outcomes. This role is open to candidates located in Toronto, Brampton, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Moncton.

 

What you'll do:
• Conduct neutral, end to end ER investigations, including workplace harassment and violence cases, ensuring compliance with legislation and organizational policies.
•  Assess complaints for investigation thresholds; analyze evidence and root causes to determine findings.
•  Prepare clear, legally sound investigation reports with evidence based conclusions and appropriate policy/legislative references.
•  Communicate findings to involved parties and provide final reports to HRBPs/ER Advisors to support leader action.
•  Maintain SLA timelines, accurate documentation, and consistent case data management.
•  Apply strong judgment in determining investigative scope, prioritizing information, and recognizing legal, employee, business, and reputational risks.
•  Escalate issues appropriately while maintaining neutrality, confidentiality, and trusted stakeholder relationships.
•  Support ER team initiatives, mentor peers, and stay current on Canadian Human Rights legislation and case law.

 

What you'll bring:
•  Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, complemented by 5+ years of HR experience in workplace investigations.
•  French bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
•  Mediation or conflict resolution experience is an asset.
•  Strong skills in:
o    Root cause analysis
o    Evidence evaluation
o    Legal worthy report writing
o    Policy interpretation
o    Trend analysis and insights generation
•  Deep understanding of the Canadian Human Rights Act, relevant provincial legislation, and emerging legal precedents.
•  Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
•  Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
•  High level of organization, discretion, and interpersonal effectiveness.
•  Strong initiative, sound decision making, and action orientation.
•  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
