Sr. Manager, Data Scientist
Our Technology team wakes up every day with one goal in mind - connecting Canadians to the people and things that matter most. Together, we are proud to support 30 million Canadians each month through managing a robust portfolio that champions leading-edge technology. We drive large-scale, complex, and high-visibility technology projects and programs that shape the future of technology in Canada and expand connectivity from coast to coast. If you are interested in being a part of this, consider applying for the following opportunity:
Who we're looking for:
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to play a key role in building the future of our data science capabilities. In this high-visibility Individual Contributor role, you will lead the design and implementation of advanced analytics at the enterprise level. You will not just build high performing models; you will treat data products as software—experimenting, building, testing, and deploying robust solutions that solve critical business problems.
You will act as a bridge between the business and the tech stack, combining deep expertise in Machine Learning with the engineering rigor of a Data Engineer (CI/CD, Pipelines, Cloud). If you enjoy working on high scale, loosely defined, complex projects that impact millions of customers, this role is for you.
What you'll do:
- Technical Leadership & Solution Architecture
- End-to-End Ownership: Lead the design and development of machine learning solutions, from hypothesis generation to production deployment.
- Engineering Excellence: Build robust, scalable production-grade pipelines for data ingestion and model consumption. Ensure rigorous testing, version control (Git), and CI/CD integration.
- Enterprise Scale: Look beyond individual models to contribute to the wider marketing data science platform. Participate in roadmap discussions to ensure solutions align with IT priorities and Data Governance frameworks.
- Innovation: Keep up-to-date with the latest technology (GenAI, LLMs, new frameworks) and apply them creatively ("Blue Sky" thinking) to drive business impact.
- Strategic Partnership & Influence
- Consult & Translate: Act as a subject matter expert, providing consultations to business stakeholders. Identify gaps, clarify vague objectives, and translate "business pain" into "technical specs."
- Influence: Strategically prioritize resources to deliver solutions that matter. Use your technical authority to guide Squad leads, Data Engineers, and junior scientists without needing direct managerial authority.
- Communication: Distill complex technical ideas into clear, concise insights for Directors and VPs. You know how to adapt your communication style: technical for the DS/DE team and strategic for the business.
- Mentorship & Culture
- Technical Mentorship: While you will not manage HR duties, you are expected to mentor the team on best practices, code reviews, and methodological rigor.
- Vendor Collaboration: Partner with external vendors or contractors (onshore/offshore) to ensure project delivery meets our high technical standards.
What you bring:
- 7+ years of experience in advanced data science, with a proven track record of putting models into production pipelines.
- Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (Statistics, Math, Artificial Intelligence Computer Science, Physics) preferred.
- The Full Stack Data Scientist:
- Core: Proficiency in Python, Spark, SQL, and ML frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras).
- Cloud & Big Data: Strong hands-on experience with Cloud (Azure/Databricks/ AWS/GCP) and Big Data frameworks
- Engineering/DevOps: Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git) is highly desirable.
- Visualization: Experience with PowerBI dashboards development.
- Analytical Depth:
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, feature engineering, dimensionality reduction, and evaluation metrics.
- Strong experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and dimensionality reduction.
- Strong data exploration and analytical skills and experienced with ad-hoc data analysis requests.
- Soft Skills:
- Ambitious but Humble: Comfortable sharing bold ideas but grounded enough to execute the gritty details.
- Resourceful: Strong troubleshooting skills; you find a way to get the data you need even when the path isn't clear.
- Communication: Proven ability to communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.
