We are looking for a Sr. Manager BE Development to lead a team of Back End developers and who gets excited about challenges and will cease every opportunity to apply his/her knowledge, experience, and resourcefulness within Rogers Digital’s mobile app Development team.

 

What you will do:

You will oversee a team of back end developers who are responsible for designing, developing and delivering the digital mobile self-serve experience and commerce capabilities for our mobile applications.  The team will be responsible for producing micro services to be consumed by the Rogers and Fido mobile applications by understanding all the use cases, their relative weights, and applying creative thinking and advanced techniques. The development effort will also be used to push our CI/CD, devops, and cloud-native development practices to maturity. Technologies in use will span a varied stack from Java services on SpringBoot deployed using Azure Kubernetes, Play/Akka services, and others.

 

  • Manage, negotiate, and coordinate with technology, and business stakeholders on prioritization of tactical and strategic technology initiatives, as well as monitor the entire project process
  • This role is accountable for end-to-end delivery of new microservices and enhancements
  • Provide estimates and participate in High Level Solutions as part of project life cycle
  • Implement processes, best practices, and tools allow for multiple paths of delivery. i.e., create simplified, consistent, reusable, efficient and flexible solutions
  • Development culture and developer experience
  • Recommend improvements and drive alignment across the Digital landscape for Rogers and Fido
  • Lead and influence others including senior leadership team on best practices
  • Inspire others to adopt the new processes and improvements based on program retrospectives
  • Manage the team of Developers in the mobile application team and lead on implementing the technical roadmap
  • Will be responsible to establish a code quality processes for delivery, code control and sustainability – governance and enforcement of best practices

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in understanding all aspects of software engineering, including coding, architecture, and network engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams and co-ordinating deliveries across many verticals towards a common delivery
  • 3+ years’ experience of demonstrated ownership of software engineering roadmap and experience with managing the day-to-day activities of a team using Agile processes (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe).
  • Strong technical thinking and demonstrated ability to lead software design and coding in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, C/C++, Ruby, Python, Angular, React or JavaScript.
  • Strong organizational and estimation skills with ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to recommend alternative technical and business approaches.
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and presentation to senior leadership is a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of key technical concepts such as modern backend applications, cloud-based systems, web services, Kubernetes and container frameworks, etc.
  • Mobile front end (iOS and Android) development is an asset.
