We’re looking for a Talent Optimization Lead


As part of the Talent Strategy and Business Relations Team, you will support the development and execution of our on-air personality training, sourcing, and utilization strategy at Sportsnet. The position is based in downtown Toronto reporting to the Sr Director.

What you will do:


  • Develop and support personalized and effective training (technical and soft skills) to further develop staff and contractors holding on-air responsibilities.
  • Develop and support a long-term development strategy for key staff and contractors holding on-air responsibilities across all platforms (radio, digital, live events, etc).
  • Find experts to provide language playbook for sport x BIPOC, Gender, LGBTQ2S+
  • Source, engage, and collaborate with subject matter experts to further develop in- house social media expertise
  • Support education of staff on view and market segmentation in collaboration with Marketing, Insights, and Business partners
  • Stay on top of research developments in respect to on-air development and performance, implementing said research in collaboration with Sr Director
  • Support internal and external research on best practises for on-air performance including how we collect data, what to collect, and how we use it
  • Assist in the development and constant refinement of our on-air performance evaluation criteria and key research metrics for recruitment and development processes
  • In partnership with Sr Director and Business partners, provide feedback to staff and contractors performing on-air duties
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Sportsnet personalities, industry peers and sports partners.

Talent and Partner Sourcing

  • Build relationships with current and former athletes, as well as major player agencies and organizations
  • Research and recommend investment in technology to find content creators on various social/digital platforms
  • Develop stronger relationships with applicable broadcasting and post-secondary education programs
  • Develop relationship with content producers in sports media industry

Cross Functional Support

  • Support on-air personality implementation across our many platforms and content opportunities
  • Act as a consultant with Marketing, Communications, and Sales partners on how to best use our roster of on-air personalities to best drive our overall strategy
  • Manage commercialization opportunities with Sales partners from start to finish including:
  • Collaborate with Sr Director on commercialization strategy 
  • Directly communicating with the staff and contractors to ensure they are apprised of the opportunity, are provided a contract, and have signed off in a timely manner
  • Work with Business Affairs to develop contracts as needed
  • Work with Coordinator, Talent Strategy to ensure timely payments

What you will bring

  • Experience in Marketing, Branding, Communications, Public Relations, including managing strategic planning for a team or organization, with experience working in sports
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Extensive knowledge of and passion for sports
  • Knowledge of and experience working with social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok with a strong sports emphasis
  • Strong understanding of digital media landscape and shifting audience habits and experience with influencer relations
  • Established relationships within sports media influencers and key stakeholders within sports industry an asset
  • Experience working with business leaders and managing high-profile personalities
  • Energetic, creative self-starter who is detail-oriented, solutions-focused and results-driven
  • Collaborative team player who works well under pressure, effectively manages high volumes of work and multiple projects, and meets deadlines in an extremely fast-paced work environment
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills
