Assistant News Director - 1130 NewsRadio 

 

What you'll do: 

  • Help to implement the editorial vision for 1130 NewsRadio and ensure the 24-7 on air and digital teams are clear on the mission and their contribution.
  • Ensure that the news product we are creating is trusted, useful, interesting, and impactful.
  • Coach and Develop an amazing team of broadcasters to be their best.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to ensure the successful delivery of audience and brand targets.
  • Ensure the highest levels of journalism, ethical and programming standards are met.
  • Ensure the team adheres to the Rogers News Policy & to the code of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.

 

What you'll bring: 

  • Background in journalism along with a passion for news gathering and storytelling. You’ll have an impeccable news sense and judgement.
  • Previous people leader experience with demonstrated skills in hiring, developing talent, and fostering an environment that facilitates high performance.  
  • Ability to work with a team under extremely tight deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of the politics, people and what people are talking about in British Columbia.
  • Experience working with digital teams to create a best in class digital news website and social networks.
  • Strategic mindset who can bring new ideas to the brand and encourage the team to be at its best.
  • Collaborative mentality and someone who works with all departments (sales, traffic, production, creative) to create the #1 news station in Vancouver.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the Burli newsroom operating system would be desirable
