Associate Editor (Vancouver)

 

The Current Affairs Associate Editor (Vancouver) will write and edit features — short and long — as well as ambitious narratives and projects across all platforms for Maclean's and associated titles.

 

A superb, ideas-driven journalist with a track record of compelling features, this team-spirited Associate Editor will be based in Vancouver and balance writing and editing a rich mix of daily, weekly and monthly stories. There will be an expectation of evening editing work to help the Toronto digital team post content.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Post-secondary education in journalism or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills are a must, as well as an instinct to tell stories creatively and differently. A track record of driving online traffic with exclusive stories is a plus.
  • Ability to write quick turnaround, accurate pieces linked to breaking news events.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and emerging trends is an asset.
  • Experience with Omniture, Google Analytics, Chartbeat, as well as social platform native analytics.
  • A strong understanding of WordPress and a working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is an asset.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Write and edit compelling stories across all platforms. The innovative thinking that underlies this journalism will help get Maclean's noticed.
  • Collaborate across the newsroom — from the web desk to design, marketing, analytics and video — to conceive and execute our enthusiasms.
  • Bring a steady stream of your own great ideas into the newsroom, and be equally enthusiastic about executing others' ideas.
  • Use research and analytics to continuously reshape and grow content.
  • Post and edit stories across platforms, write headlines, refine posts to increase engagement.
