A Hockey Central Associate Producer is a fundamental part of the Sportsnet Hockey Production team. They define the vision, set expectations and support our shows by delivering compelling and entertaining hockey news and analysis content. A Hockey Central Associate Producer is a self motivated, team focused employee.  Who supports and executes Producer’s broadcast vision, collaborative within a team environment to help everyone reach collective and individual goals. This role requires strong TV broadcast and hockey editorial knowledge. The successful candidate must be able to lead by example, employ a strong work ethic and understand the importance of storytelling that captures the audience’s attention. They must be willing to work alongside SN Central, Digital, Radio, Marketing, Operations and Sales Management to ensure everyone’s collective needs are understood and ideally met.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and contribute to regular editorial meetings when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Producer(s), Commentators and other Associate Producer(s) to get a solid understanding of what the stories are and how we are telling them in our shows.
  • Offer opinion and/or suggestions, write, and prepare material which may include, voice overs, reports, clips, headlines, teases, bumpers, and feature elements.
  • Assist producer with building of the lineup when applicable.
  • Search for hockey content using our archive resources (ex. Quantel, Ardome, etc).
  • When required, enter font information, including researched stats, ensuring all information is factually and grammatically correct as well as following the graphics style guide.
  • Prepare highlights for updates/shows when required.
  • Be prepared to fulfill all Hockey department Associate Producer roles, including feature storytelling, tease producing, ISO directing, font coordinating and even Producing Regional NHL updates when applicable.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment
  • Able to bring creative and innovative ideas to our shows
  • Must be able to work various shifts (including weekends and evenings)
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience writing for broadcast
  • Exemplary hockey knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of technical equipment used in production
  • Minimum 3 years television sports production experience.
  • Graduate of a broadcasting or journalism program or equivalent experience.
